Welcome to “Who the Folk?!” Every week on Monday we feature a new member of the community as our “Person of the Week.” Last week week we got to know Eddie Kaprall. This week meet Sam Berenson! Know someone we should feature? Nominate them by sending an email to [email protected].
TC Jewfolk: Are you from the Twin Cities?
Sam: No. I was born in Baltimore and grew up in South Carolina. I wanted to have a different college experience, so I decided to go to the U of M and ended up staying. Go Gophers!
TCJ: You’re the new Engagement Director at Temple of Aaron. Mazal tov! What are you most looking forward to about your new gig?
Sam: Thank you, thank you. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the community and building relationships with some amazing people! I’m also really excited to plan some amazing programs (which everyone should attend of course!)
TCJ: Are you involved in any other TC organizations?
Sam: I’m a participant of the 20s and 30s groups around the cities. I’m always looking to get involved in more organizations and meet new people!
TCJ: What’s your favorite way to celebrate Shabbat?
Sam: My favorite way to celebrate Shabbat is right…in the direction of the challah. But seriously, I love celebrating Shabbat with my wonderful friends. Outside in the beautiful fall months are best.
TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday?
Sam: I would have to say Rosh Hashanah. It’s usually one of the few holidays I get to spend with my family. It also makes me take a step back for some prime personal reflection.
TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish food?
Sam: My mom’s brisket. Not your mom’s brisket. It’s the best brisket on the entire planet.
TCJ: What’s your favorite fall activity?
Sam: I absolutely love being around the lakes, especially when the leaves start to change colors. Walking, reading, playing on the playground, you name it, I’m there.
TCJ: What’s your favorite thing to do in the cities (any time of year)?
Sam: Exploring. I can’t get enough of trying new places and going on adventures throughout the cities!
TCJ: What else do you do for fun?
Sam: Going to musicals, writing poetry, making friends, eating the world, hula hooping, dancing, watching movies, etc. etc.
TCJ: Give us one more reason why you’re folking awesome!
Sam: If challenged, I will have a dance off with you.
