SUMMER. It’s officially summer, and not just because Bud Light Lime is everywhere again [ew].
We hope you had as lovely as a June as we, celebrating all of the Pride in all of its forms. By contrast, July is far more low-key… which, frankly, is just fine, considering it’s gonna start off by being so hot & humid that I’m already sweating just thinking about it.

“Artist Reception: Hillel Smith”

Hillel Smith, an artist and designer focused on re-imagining the potential of Judaica by utilizing contemporary media to create new manifestations of traditional forms, will be showcasing some of his work and giving a brief talk about his process, in which making fun and engaging content is similarly the crux of his work as a designer for clients including HIAS, PJ Library, and Patton Oswalt.

Well, this sounds just lovely: MN Mammalehs Shabbat’s in the Park, a very casual Mammaleh get-together, is returning for its second year! “Fore! The Kids: A St. Paul JCC Golf & Games Benefit’”

The Fore! the Kids Golf & Games Benefit is an annual fundraiser to support deserving families with scholarships. Each year, the JCC provides $300,000 in financial assistance to help families attend their programming. No matter whether you want in on the games or golf, check-in is at 10:30 a.m., with lunch at 11:30 and respective games at 12:30 p.m. More info can be found here.

Summer is here, and NextGen is ready to make the most of it! Tonight, they’re returning to their roots with a party to celebrate philanthropy and volunteerism. Registration is a $10 donation, and at the party, you can choose what JFCS Program your $10 donation goes to support. On top of light food and bowling, pre-registrants will receive a drink ticket.

“Women Repair the World Service Project: Community Cooks with Appetite for Change”
Sunday, July 21st — 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. @ Appetite for Change, Minneapolis. $10-$25
Spend your Sunday as a true mensch: Women Repair the World, a project of Minneapolis Jewish Federation Women’s Philanthropy and National Council of Jewish Women-Minnesota, will spend the afternoon cooking, creating community, and engaging in meaningful conversation in partnership with Appetite for Change, a community-led non-profit that uses food as a tool to build health, wealth and social change in North Minneapolis.
And you? You’ll be helping prepare food for AFC’s summer training and opportunity program interns. A group of about 35 teens from north Minneapolis, these interns spend their summer growing food, running the West Broadway farmers market, and facilitating community cook workshops.
The WRW ticket price will be donated to Appetite for Change to offset programming and food costs. Tickets are $18 in advance, $10 for students/Jewish professionals, and $25 at the door — all ticket funds go directly to cover Appetite for Change’s food production and programming costs.
“Jim Crow of the North: Screening and Panel Discussion”

This sounds like one incredible & insightful offering, in particular with a lens to our own neighborhoods: a special screening of the TPT documentary, “Jim Crow of the North,” revealing the history and impact of racist real estate covenants in Minneapolis.
A moderated panel discussion will follow. Confirmed panelists include Laura Weber of the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest, Laura Zelle of Jewish Community Relations Council: Minnesota and the Dakotas, and Denise Pike of Mapping Prejudice. Moderated by Iris Tzafrir
