There’s something super cool in listening to hard pounding beats and singing guitar solos with Israeli lyrics. As I’m sitting here, writing this piece and listening to the Shalom Hanoch video below, I can’t help but smile.
Israeli rockstar Shalom Hanoch – think of him as the Israeli Mick Jagger meets the Israeli Neil Young – is coming to Minneapolis’ Cedar Cultural Center on Thursday, March 10th at 7:30 pm as a part of his U.S. tour and there’s no question that it’s a show not to be missed.
Hanoch’s music ranges from pure Rock & Roll to delicate, intimate, acoustic songs, which have always played a major roll in Israeli culture (”Maya”, “Why Should I Take it to Heart”, “Guitar & Violin”, “Dej’a- Vu”). This musician/composter/arranger/singer is so hip that his most famous concerts happen once-a-month at the hip Tel Aviv Barby Club – they START at 2am; and are sold out in advance.
So listen to Hanoch’s music – below – and then go knock knock knockin’ on the Cedar’s (online) door trying to get tix (buy ’em on the Cedar’s Website for $16 in advance, $21 at the door, with a 20% discount for kids, students, and seniors).

Rock and roll is electric. Rock and roll speaks of and to a certain time and place. That time and place may change, but it’s still rock and roll. To me, anyway.
“Rock & Roll” – taken from R&B songs/sensibilities – is a wonderfully colorful phrase for the best way to have “fun in bed”! ;o)~ But what it means to me, especially when thinking about what Shalom Hanoch’s music does for me, is to get hips swaying, hands clapping, and feel that great thud in your chest as the beat pounds out a rhythm that really does have something elemental to do with life!
Rock and Roll is something you experience. To me, it is a genre of music that makes me want to clap my hands and sway
To me, Rock and Roll is music with a driving beat, with a predictable musical progression, usually of the I-IV-V type. Rock relies on a lot of repetition and some great chords to “bring it home”. It’s less reflective than it is exciting and energizing. Even rock ballads have a driving force that stays with you for a long time.
It’s an emotional scream set to music …
