The Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival kicks off on Thursday, March 15th at the Showplace ICON Theatre at the West End. The 19th annual festival (organized by the Sabes JCC) runs through Sunday, April 1 and will include 14 films over 15 days from 9 countries that include 3 comedies, 5 documentaries and 6 dramas with 8 Minnesota premieres and 1 US premiere!
And the Film Fest is sponsored by TC Jewfolk, so you know it’s gotta be awesome. And Opening Night next Thursday is going to be fabulous, which is why we’re giving away TWO PAIRS of FREE tickets to the evening!
The Opening Night film? “Dorfman.” The film’s screenwriter Wendy Kout and composer David Reynolds (SLP born, St. Olaf grad) will be at the Showplace Icon movie theater to answer questions after the film! The film screening starts at 7pm, and there’s an Opening Reception at 6pm, during which TC Jewfolk will be selling our fabulous new “Ya, sure … Jew Betcha” t-shirts.
MORE ABOUT “DORFMAN”
“Dorfman” is a yet-to-be-released Hollywood film about an under-appreciated young Jewish woman who desperately needs to reinvent her life. Single, mousy and plain, she lives at home caring for her widowed father (Elliott Gould) and works as an accountant at her brother’s agency where she serves as workhorse, confidante and scapegoat. Socially inept and ill at ease, she spends a large portion of her day thinking of love. When the opportunity arises to help the man of her dreams by taking care of his cat and just-moved-into loft in the newly revitalized “D-town” of Los Angeles she jumps at the chance. Dorfman begins a whirlwind adventure of new experiences and meeting intriguing people, including an artist, that sparks an unexpected personal transformation in a newly transformed city.
The film got Winner Best Feature: Hollywood Film Festival and the Miami Jewish Film Festival.
This screening is the film’s Minnesota premiere!
