Go, Go, Go Joseph!
Going on now, the Chanhassen Dinner Theater presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The most popular show in the history of the theater is back for a third run, now through September 21.

Judging by the production photos, this may be the most colorful rendition of Joseph ever. For those unfamiliar, Joseph tells the story of Joseph, the 11th son of Jacob (of the famous Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob triumvirate), and the progenitor of one of the tribes of Israel (of the famous twelve tribes of Israel). I’m sure you know the story: Joseph is Jacob’s favorite, he’s resented by his brothers, sold into slavery, interprets some dreams, becomes the right-hand man of Pharaoh, reunites with his brothers, accuses his brother Benjamin of stealing a cup, then all the brothers do the luau to somehow convince Joseph that Benjamin is innocent. A completely faithful retelling. Trust.

The show runs from now through September 21, 2013. They play eight shows a week, Tuesday-Sunday, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday. And get this: kids get in free! Valid from June 18-August 7, kids 5-17 get a free ticket with any adult ticket to Tuesday or Wednesday evening shows. Going to see Joseph was one of my favorite experiences as a kid. I dressed like him for Purim, I designed a soap box derby car after him, my Bar Mitzvah Torah portion, Vayigash, is the whole “Oh no! Not he!” luau. My parents chose him as the theme of my Bar Mitzvah party (I wanted baseball. I’m still bitter). Seriously, take your kids.
