WCCO-TV sports director Mark Rosen emceed the Sabes Jewish Community Center‘s annual benefit Tuesday night, which was used to kick off the J Games, the JCC’s nod to this summer’s Olympic Games. The J Games will combine the annual golf outing with five other events spanning dates throughout the summer that are fun for the family.
The events are: Food Fest (June 26), Golf & Games (Aug. 1), Pet Party (Aug. 28), Art Beat (Aug. 28), Olympiada (Sept. 11), Brain Games (Oct. 9). The six events are expected to draw more than 10,000 participants to the Barry Family Campus and Oakridge Country Club.
Tuesday’s event gathered more than 350 guests packed into the Hyatt Regency to celebrate Gil and Debbie Mann and their contribution to the community. Debbie’s main passion has been education, serving on the board of the Heilicher Minneapolis Jewish Day School and has taught students there as both a tutor and classroom teacher. Gil has volunteered in many capacities and organizations that have run the gamut from Jewish senior housing to lobbying for Israel. He served as Beth El Synagogue’s President and also chaired their recent capital campaign. He has been President of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, serving on their board for 18 years and on many committees. Just recently, he completed nearly a year of service as Interim CEO of the Federation at a salary of $1 per month.
