Shavua Tov! Hope you all had a good week! And Happy Valentine’s Day.
Here’s this week’s hottest Jewish news: Anti-Semitic and anti-Israel protesters at UCI, Jewish fashionistas, Israeli politics at the NYT, the real V-Day, Rep. Bachmann on curses and Israel, and Jewish Oscar videos.
1. Ambassador Oren vs. Hamas At UCI and Police release names of those arrested at UC Irvine in Oren protest. Thanks to Jewlicious for covering the ridiculous anti-Semitism on display at University of California – Irvine this week. 11 muslim students (including the leadership of the campus Muslim Students Union) were arrested for attempting to shut down the talk by Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren. Wow.
2. Times Stands Tall with Jerusalem Bureau Chief Defense. O’Dwyer’s PR Blog. Reporting on the NY Times’ inner and outer debate about whether its kosher to have the son of its Jerusalem bureau chief, Ethan Bronner, serve in the Israel Defense Force. Thoughts on this one? As if the NYT’s business writers don’t have connections to business? Or the arts writers don’t have relationships with people in the arts? Puhlease.
3. Well-behaved vaginas rarely make history. Jewesses with Attitude. An ode to the real V-day: Vagina Monologues performances this weekend at campuses and community centers around the country. And to Eve Ensler, one heck of a kick ass Jewess.
4. Bachmann: America ‘cursed’ by God ‘if we reject Israel’. Minnesota Independent. Okay, this woman is bordering on a bit too crazy. I’m gung-ho on supporting Israel, but saying America is “cursed by God” if it doesn’t? Oy!
5. With the Oscars just around the corner, are you in need of some schooling on the Jewish/Israeli films in the mix? Check out Heeb Magazine’s witty and biting reviews of Ajami, Inglourious Bastards, and A Serious Man.
6. Fashion Week Jewish Geography. Jewcy. Check out the fahbulous headshots of Jewish fashionistas parading around NYC this week.
