One of the best restaurants in Minneapolis, nay, in Minnesota, died yesterday. A fire started in a grease pan at Heidi’s restaurant, run by local MOTs Stewart and Heidi Woodman, and spread to engulf their fine dining establishment and four other shops and restaurants on the block.
The Star Tribune has the full story here – “Fire Destroys Five Business in South Minneapolis.” Heavy Table has the story and photos from the fire. The next door Blackbird Cafe was also destroyed (and now I can’t get the Beatles’ “Blackbird” out of my head).
Irony that Chef Stewart Woodman was yesterday named a semifinalist for a James Beard Foundation Award, one of the country’s highest foodie honors. We know you’ll do great things for food in the Twin Cities again soon.
Our hearts go out to Stewart and Heidi. From strength to strength.
