Alef List: The Best Jew To-Do's

April showers bring…ooh, ooh, you totally know this one, right? April showers bring May greatJewto-do’sontheeventscalendar. Ok, so maybe it isn’t exactly what you were thinking, but it’s true – May’s events calendar has some pretty cool Jewish events. Check out the whole list or scan below for the cream of the crop for the next two weeks.
Here’s the Alef List for May 4 – May 17:
Tuesday 5/4/10 – Sunday 5/16/10:
Get in a little musical theater (who doesn’t love a good musical?!) when South Pacific comes to the Ordway. A Jewish event? Of course! Rogers and Hammerstein were Jewish and there’s at least one cast member who’s Jewish too. (His bubby and zaida are probably kvelling that they were mentioned in his bio). Need more convincing? TC Jewfolk has the hookup for an AMAZING discount for any night of the show’s run. Click here for all the details.
Friday 5/7/10:
Mt. Zion’s 20’s and 30’s group NOAZIM hosts Soul Food Friday. A yummy meal for $5 starts at 7:30 and service begins at 8:15. A warm and inviting group will make you feel welcomed and the laid-back feeling of the evening will start your weekend off right. Don’t forget to RSVP via email to [email protected] if you plan to come to dinner – helps the cooks prepare! Mt. Zion Temple is at 1300 Summit in St. Paul.
Tuesday 5/11/10:
Matt Levitt hosts another Jewish Arts and Culture at The Acadia Cafe. This month’s show features Levittrio, Nat Uri / Brian Palay, Ben Levin / Common Elder, The Cold Open, and special guest Geoff Fischbein. No cover and the music starts at 7:30. Show up a little early to take advantage of happy hour (runs ’til 7) or enjoy a late night HH from 10-close (Tuesday nights are tap nights with $1 off domestic taps or $4 off domestic pitchers). Good music and good beer – now what’s not to like?
Thursday 5/13/10:
The Israel Program Center of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation brings Yael Dayan to the Sabes JCC at 7pm. The daughter of the late General Moshe Dayan, Ms. Dayan served three terms as a Labor Party Member of Knesset. She has chaired the Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women, which she founded during her first term, as well as the Sub-Committee for Gay and Lesbian Rights. Dayan was also a member of the Defense and Foreign Affairs and the Constitution, Law and Justice Committees. Yael Dayan will discuss the status of women in Israeli society and in the Israeli Defense Forces.
Or, if you’re in the mood to grab a drink with other young(ish) Jews, head over to Wild Tymes in Downtown St. Paul for happy hour with the UJFC of St. Paul’s Young Leadership. Schmoozing commences at 6:30.
