Position Summary:

The Director of Marketing and Communications is a key professional in growing the Minneapolis Jewish Federation’s impact by creating and sharing captivating, engaging, and meaningful multi-channel marketing products and communications. As a strategic and critical thinker, this position builds and sustains MJF’s reputation for quality and stakeholder satisfaction by being responsible for overseeing all marketing material and communications distributed to the public, donors, organizational partners, program participants, event attendees, and other audiences. This position works collaboratively and cross-functionally amongst teams, including marketing, philanthropy, and community impact to achieve the organization’s goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy & Execution

  • Create, execute, and manage strategic marketing plans
  • Develop an annual marketing budget and keep track of the resources for proper long-term and short-term planning
  • Nurture leads and engage stakeholders by directing the development and execution of sound digital and print marketing strategy based on market and donor research
  • Oversee and guide digital marketing tactics and performance analysis to enhance engagement and improve campaign effectiveness
  • Oversee and guide all marketing professionals to analyze print and event marketing tactics and adjust accordingly to enhance stakeholder engagement
  • Develop and implement a multi-channel, strategic marketing plan to grow awareness of MJF’s offerings, value, and donor base
  • Direct project management system and team structure that provides high quality and timely assets
  • Strategic foresight and planning to ensure programming and events stay on track and meet all deadlines

Content Direction & Content Management

  • Understand the breadth of MJF’s work, and connect dots between multiple areas and projects
  • Develop and oversee creative concepts that demonstrates local, national, and global organizational impact
  • Work with philanthropy and community impact departments to plan, oversee, manage, coordinate donor communications, appeals, and stewardship information
  • Ensure all media opportunities for the CEO are fully vetted
  • Assist MJF in ensuring communications are culturally competent and reach diverse audiences
  • Manage brand and reputation, ensuring that brand identity and key messaging is infused in all organizational efforts and the public is aware of the value that the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and Minnesota Jewish Community Foundation provide the community
  • Review all design and written work, giving feedback and direction to the marketing team and external vendors
  • Understand how to and utilize JFNA resources and collateral for our own use
  • Serve as media liaison with Jewish and secular community

Project & Team Management

  • Ensure that the appropriate systems, staffing, processes and procedures are in place to properly and reasonably support marketing and communications
  • Responsible for the Marketing & Communications department’s goals & objectives, ensuring evaluation systems are in place related to goals & objectives and reporting progress to CEO and Leadership Team
  • Project Management (using Basecamp) to manage and streamline team workflow and productivity
  • Nurture and professionally develop a team of marketing professionals

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Uphold and exemplify the Minneapolis Jewish Federation’s mission/vision
  • Exemplify customer service both internally and externally
  • Attend Federation events as position requires
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings

Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field

 

EXPERIENCE: 7-10 years marketing experience and experience leading a team

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Strong writing skills, Adobe Creative Suite, social media, email (MailChimp) and web (WordPress/Squarespace) platforms and analytics tools. Salesforce recommended

 

SCHEDULE FLEXIBILITY: Hybrid – Works in office in St. Louis Park a minimum of three days per week; Ability to work non-traditional hours dependent on project/organization need

 

Qualifications

  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent and proven writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to unify messaging across various functions and types of work, engaging in discussions at both at a strategic and tactical level
  • Sincere commitment to the mission of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and working collaboratively with all stakeholders, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program attendees, and other supporters
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Be able to prioritize, re-prioritize evolving needs, and manage expectations
  • Ability to think critically and elicit information from stakeholders (internal and external) that provide team members strategic information to produce high-quality and timely work
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit key messaging and influential communications
  • An ever-improving mindset for self and team to think critically and enhance marketing and communications assets, continuously striving for the best
