Position Summary:

Beth El USY is the first USY chapter in the country. With such a legacy, we take pride in having an active group of middle schoolers involved in our regular programming. Our Kadima chapter aims to provide a safe and engaging space for Jewish middle schoolers at Beth El to gather, create community, and build connections with each other and with Judaism.

The ideal candidate for our Kadima advisor is a strong role model who demonstrates kindness, respect, and accountability for our middle schoolers and teen leaders. They will help plan and facilitate regular Kadima events with a teen leader and attend relevant conventions and retreats. They will develop positive and friendly relationships with our middle school students, and manage behavior concerns and interpersonal relationships as needed.

This position will have an average of 2-3 hours of work a week. They will plan and lead bi-monthly Kadima events both offsite and onsite. An offsite event will be approximately 5 hours of work total. An onsite event will be approximately 3 hours of work total. This position also attends four conventions a year, which are overnight retreats that run Friday-Sunday. The Kadima Youth Group Advisor is expected to maintain consistent attendance at Kadima events and communicate absences well in advance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee teen leaders to ensure:

  • Programs are planned on time
  • Programs are advertised on social media
  • All logistics are confirmed in a timely manner
  • Attend all Kadima programs including bi-monthly onsite and offsite programs (typically on Shabbat and on Sundays).
  • Attend conventions and retreats as listed:
  • Youth Outreach Weekend (YOW)
  • Gesher Kinnus
  • Fall Kinnus
  • Tarbut Shabbaton
  • Attend additional programs as needed
  • Serve as a role model for students, both secularly and Jewishly 
  • Help foster healthy and safe relationships among students
  • Other duties as assigned 
  • Compensation: Salaried at $3,000 paid biweekly from August – May.

Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • History of working with middle schoolers
  • Excellent at working with middle schoolers
  • Excellent at managing large groups
  • Knowledge of basic Jewish traditions and practice 
  • Reports to: Director of Youth Engagement
