Summary: Responsible for a wide variety of Kar-Ben marketing and publicity efforts

Kar-Ben Publishing, founded in 1974, is a division of Lerner Publishing Group, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With over 400 titles in print, Kar-Ben is the largest publisher of exclusively Jewish-themed children’s books in the world, publishing 18-20 new, high quality children’s titles each year.

This position is based out of our downtown Minneapolis headquarters, with the possibility of hybrid.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Work as liaison with Kar-Ben Publisher and Lerner marketing department in all aspects of Kar-Ben’s publicity and marketing efforts.
  2. Responsible for all administrative functions for Kar-Ben, including TWYNK updates, F&G distribution, PW information delivery every season and for special sections, including Religion & Spirituality sections.
  3. Write copy for back covers, press releases, Kar-Ben catalogs, sales materials, and blog posts.
  4. Manage Kar-Ben’s e-commerce website (www.karben.com) including seasonal book info upload, marketing, promos, and all other content.
  5. Create and implement marketing plans for all Kar-Ben titles.
  6. Responsible for author relations.
  7. Implement all publicity campaigns, promoting books and the imprint to the media, both Jewish and secular.
  8. Build relationships with key reviewers in both Jewish and non-Jewish media. Maintain, update, manage, and expand media contact lists.
  9. Act as liaison with marketing department for design of all catalogs, sell sheets, etc.
  10. Manage Kar-Ben’s social media presence including Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.
  11. Manage all customer databases in Constant Contact.
  12. Support Kar-Ben publisher in any additional ways as needed.

Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  1. Proficient or advanced skills in Microsoft Office including mail merge and formatting.
  2. Knowledge of or experience with book publishing helpful.
  3. Advanced skills in social media networking and a desire to be innovative in these areas.
  4. Proven communication skills, organizational skills, website management skills, self-starter, a strong interest in support of children’s book publishing, and the ability to prioritize projects and daily tasks to meet deadlines.
  5. Some knowledge of Judaism helpful but not required as Kar-Ben is a publisher of Jewish-themed children’s books.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in English or related.
