Position Summary:

Mount Zion Temple, a Reform Jewish synagogue in St. Paul, Minnesota, is looking for an experienced Office and School Assistant to join the team. This full-time position requires someone responsive, thoughtful, self-directed, adaptable, positive, and seeking a challenging role. The assistant will be a point of contact for members and guests, including answering phones and greeting visitors and vendors.

The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule and maintain regular office hours, especially while religious school is in session, including Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. This role will primarily report to the Religious School Director and will be supervised by the Executive Director, offering a unique opportunity for personal growth and development within our administration team.

This is a salaried full-time position. The salary range is ($46-50K). Benefits include earned PTO, sick, paid holiday time, dental and health insurance, and access to a retirement plan.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing administrative support to the Religious School Director
  • Managing office needs and communicating frequently with members, teachers, and guests
  • Coordinating weekly emails to religious school families; managing form sign-ups for religious school and youth groups
  • Maintaining school calendars, coordinating parent and volunteer sign-ups for school-related functions
  • Overseeing office and school supply inventory and vendors
  • Assisting with accounting duties, database upkeep, and acknowledging donations
  • Taking minutes during meetings and other duties, as assigned

Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in office administration, preferably in a Jewish or non-profit setting
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Technologically savvy, experience with Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Zoom, Constant Contact, Canva, and other platforms a plus
  • Handle confidential information discretely and with respect
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a warm and welcoming presence with a keen sense of customer service
  • Flexibility in work hours, for example, willing to work Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings during the Religious School year (September-May)
  • Able to sit for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and use office equipment and machines
