J-Pride Yiddish Cultural Cafe Kickoff

You are invited to the first of J-Pride’s new Yiddish Culture Cafes! We will gather to learn, schmooze, and be inspired by Yiddish culture. Participants will review the Yiddish Alef-beys (alphabet), learn how to introduce themselves in Yiddish, share about their interests and experiences with Yiddish culture, and explore Queer Yiddish terminology throughout history. No prior Yiddish knowledge is required. Whether you’re just curious about Yiddish or you’re already immersed in its rich culture, all are welcome to gather with fellow LGBTQ+ Jews to connect, share, and learn something new. This gathering will kick off an ongoing series of exploring Yiddish literature, art, history, theater, folklore, magic, and beyond.

The first hour of this event will take place indoors, and we request participants please wear masks during that time if it does not pose accessibility barriers. KN 95 Masks will be provided. Afterward, small group discussions, noshing, and schmoozing can take place either indoors or on the outdoor patio, with or without masks.

Register here! Please reach out to Hunter at [email protected] with any questions.

The Yiddish Book Center’s Yiddish Arts and Culture Initiative is a program in which Jewish communities will deepen and enrich their engagement with Yiddish literature, art, and culture, fostering a deeper understanding of its relevance to Jewish identity. This program was made possible by Debbie Mitzner and Wayne Miller in memory of Iris Mitzner.
