You’re Invited: ENGAGE, An Evening of Jewish Learning

engage logoTime to reclaim Jewish learning, don’t ya think?

Many young Jewish adults have tortured relationships with their Jewish educational backgrounds. Maybe you went to a Sunday or weekday afternoon Hebrew school where you learned very little in a rote manner. Maybe you never even had the chance to learn Jewishly at all.

But there’s no need for that to be the end of the story of you and Jewish wisdom, of you and Jewish “knowing.”  Why not give it another shot in a friendly, adult environment where the content is downright fascinating.

At ENGAGE, An Evening of Jewish Learning, we’re about richly varied topics and compelling teachers:

Rabbi Yosi Gordon on what goes into a rabbinical decision;
Rabbi Shosh Dworsky on Joseph in both the Bible and the Koran;
Earl Schwartz on the negative connotations of “tikkun olam” in the work of Hebrew writers Ahad ha-Am, S. Y. Agnon, and Amos Oz.
Rabbi Aaron Weininger on Why Be Jewish?

Want hands-on?  A Mediterranean cooking class and Tallit-making await.
Want to move your body?  Try SABABA (Israeli style Zumba).
Have you been longing for a taste of the spiritual richness of Judaism?   Chanting for the Soul  is one class to try. Or join Rabbi Emma Kippley-Ogman and use text study, music and meditation to investigate Tehom – the “Waters of the Deep” referenced in Genesis.

You may not realize it but this Twin Cities Jewish community has some phenomenal teachers who really know their stuff and are psyched to share it with you.

So, time to give up kvetching about what you didn’t get when you were younger and take this opportunity – as an adult – to broaden what you know about this 3,000 year-old culture of ours and deepen how you think about it.

That’s about celebrating when we learn together  – a quintessentially Jewish thing to do. They probably never mentioned that in Hebrew School, either.
