Today is Give To The Max Day. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of Jewfolk Media for more than four years, first as a board member and now as editor. The reason I have remained involved is because the Twin Cities Jewish community requires a voice and a presence that is independent.
But don’t take it from me; three of the people who were featured during Tzedakah (Tz)Thursday answered the same question:
Why is TC Jewfolk an important element to the Twin Cities Jewish Community?
Brent Wolfe: I like that it’s an updated voice in the community with no set agenda other than informational about here’s the community around you and here’s what’s happening. You’re not dictating that you need to do this to be a better Jew or do that to be a part of this group. It’s ‘Here’s everything that’s available to you and you can be a part of it if you choose to.’
Debbie Wolfe: I like, working and volunteering in the community, that it’s something that’ll help all the Jewish organizations now and in the future. It helps us communicate with each other, and help people find out what’s going in our local Jewish world.
Jason Grais: I think TC Jewfolk is just a great incubator for innovation in our community. The staff at Jewfolk Media and the people who have been involved have done a great job of not trying to go with the flow and continue to do what’s been done in the past; they’ve come from a clean slate and looked at needs and gaps within the community, and trying to figure out ways to solve them in creative and tactical ways.
Jacy Grais: I think the way forward in the future for the Jewish community locally is through collaboration. TC Jewfolk is really the hub — and aims to continue to be the hub — of centralized information and resources to help all of our local small and large organizations collaborate together on both sides of the river is where it’s at.
Jason Grais: I think the one other thing is that Jewfolk Media can provide is a voice for people who are not involved in all the different organizations, they may not be affiliated with synagogues. There’s a great opportunity for anyone, whether they are extremely engaged and involved in the community or not, to engage through TC Jewfolk, have a voice, bring their thinking in and be part of the conversation.
Lisa Stein: TC Jewfolk has been a really amazing resource for many young families, whether they have kids or not, are single or married. It’s an amazing hub of information. As a single mother, it helps me in that I don’t have to go to multiple places to find out what’s going on in the community. Plus, having it be local and Jewish is really, really amazing. Jewfolk Media is one of the few Jewish organizations I support. It provides me – a single, full-time-working mother – with access and knowledge about the Twin Cities Jewish community that I would not get otherwise. I give because it provides a forum for me to connect with other Jewish mothers on the Minnesota Mammalehs’ Facebook page and keeps me up-to-date with what is happening around town. TC Jewfolk has become an important part of my weekly reading and I’m a proud supporter of their work.
