Alef List: Cool Jew To-Do's

No matter which Groundhog Day camp you decide to follow (and who knew there was more than one?), it’s clear we’re in for at least a few more weeks of winter. Luckily, the calendar is filled with great events and happenings to keep us entertained until Spring shows up.
Here’s the Alef List of Jew To-Do’s from February 9-22:
2/9-2/14/10
Head to the theater district and check out The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein at The Orpheum. TC Jewfolk readers even get a discount for the February 9th and 10th shows (just click here ). A hilarious show from the genius minds of Mel Brooks and the folks who brought us The Producers, plus a chance to get a good deal on tickets – what’s not to love?!
2/11/10
Join the UJFC of St. Paul’s Young Leadership for happy hour at Axel’s Bonfire on Grand. 6:30 – 9ish. There’s always a fun crowd that shows up to shmooze and sip a cocktail.
2/22/10
Hanging out at shul on a Monday night doesn’t exactly scream “party on!” But Unrolling the Whole Megillah: Purim Beyond the Carnival will include “The R-Rated Megillah: An Adult Text Study of Megillat Esther” with Rabbi Avi Olitzky  and another session on Purim pop-up art (as well as 2 other great sessions). Seems like a pretty cool way to do a little Jewish learning. Sponsored by the Twin Cities Conservative Synagogues and hosted at Temple of Aaron. Registration at 6:30. Free for the community, with cash donations requested to be given to local food shelves.
If you’re more in the mood for a movie and discussion that night, join the Indie Jews for a screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Garden, the story of a group of low-income families struggling to protect a 14-acre urban farm in the middle of South Central Los Angeles from bureaucratic real estate developers. Movie snacks will be served. 6:15pm. The event is free, but don’t forget to RSVP.
Save the Date:
2/25/10:
Minneapolis Jewish Humor Festival opening night
2/26/10: Ari Herstand DVD Release at the Fine Line
