Win free tickets to gypsy klezmer band Gadji-Gadjo at the Cedar

What do you get when you mix high-spirited klezmer, classical, jazz, Southern American, and Quebec traditional influences, plus a violin, mandolin, clarinet, bass clarinet, accordion, guitar, double-bass and percussion? The unique gypsy sounds of Gadji-Gadjo, a six-person band from Quebec that is coming to the Cedar Cultural Center on Saturday, March 13th. Think Klezmatics before they got mellow (“Man in a Hat” anyone) meets punk, a cappella and that bar scene from Fiddler on the Roof. But don’t take my word for it – check out their Youtube videos below
Chicago folk singer, guitarist and accordionist Ami Saraiya will open the show. Saraiya’s music has been described as a “delightful . . . sound that’s equal parts Feist, Billie Holiday, post-modern folk, Rufus Wainwright, and 60‘s pop.”
TC Jewfolk is giving away TWO PAIRS OF FREE TICKETS to Gadji-Gadjo’s show at the CedarWhat do you have to do to win? Before midnight on Thursday, March 4th…. Tell us one interesting fact about Quebec in the comments. The winner will be drawn randomly by The Hat, so no worries about getting the “right” answer. But if you tell us things we don’t already know about Quebec, you get our eternal approval and appreciation. And since all I know about Quebec is that they speak French, that shouldn’t be too difficult.
If you don’t win, the tickets are pretty reasonably priced anyway. Click here to purchase tickets ahead of time for just $15, or procrastinate and get them at the door for $18. Doors open at 7:00pm and the show starts at 8:00pm.
