Don’t miss this great volunteer opportunity this May in Israel with the United Jewish Fund and Council (UJFC) of St. Paul!
The UJFC is now accepting applications for participants in the M.A.D. (Make a Difference) for Israel volunteer program May 6-17, 2012. Sponsored by the UJFC in partnership with the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Partnership 2Gether (formerly Partnership 2000), M.A.D. offers participants a unique and meaningful experience in St. Paul’s partnership region, the Sovev Kinneret in Northern Israel. Deadline to apply is March 30.M.A.D. gives volunteers the opportunity to work alongside Israelis in a variety of settings:
- in the Galita kibbutz chocolate factory,
- with kids at risk from the “Youth Futures” and “Elem” programs,
- with participants in the Disabled Soldiers Club,
- with small groups from the Tiberias area, teaching English,
- with the HaMeyasdim elderly association in the Jordan Valley.
Priority is given to members of the St. Paul area Jewish community. Applicants do not need to have prior experience or Hebrew fluency. The program provides free accommodations at a hotel in Tiberias, includes all transportation within Israel and 90 percent of meal and accommodations costs.
Participants are responsible for airfare to Israel. Stipend available contingent upon meeting certain criteria.
M.A.D. (Make a Difference) for Israel is a program of Partnership 2Gether which brings Diaspora Jews and Israeli Jews together to help establish long-term bonds, leading to understanding and a mutual commitment for a strong, united Jewish future. St. Paul, together with Milwaukee and Tulsa, has partnered with the Sovev Kinneret region. This area includes some of Israel’s most beautiful and celebrated landscapes — the Jordan Valley and Lower Galilee, Kfar Tavor, as well as the bustling city of Tiberias, on the shores of the Kinneret (a.k.a. the Sea of Galilee).
To apply for the program online, go to www.jewishstpaul.org. For more information, contact Dan Mogelson at 651-695-3189 or [email protected]. Applications for the program are due to the UJFC office by March 30, 2012.
The United Jewish Fund and Council unites, sustains and enhances the St. Paul area Jewish community and strengthens bonds with Jewish communities in Israel and around the world. The UJFC fulfills this mission through financial resource development and planning, and by working in partnership with social service agencies, educational institutions and synagogues.
