Two years ago, Purim in Minneapolis was a mess. It seemed like every synagogue had their own Purim party, trying to attract the same group of 20s-40s Jews. Then last year, everything changed. A group of rabbis, synagogues, TC Jewfolks, and other Jewish organizations around town made like the Planeteers, and with their powers combined called forth the most badass Purim party in Minneapolis history, Cirque du Purim!
This year, the organizing committee faced a tough task. How do we top an already epic party? After careful and often contentious deliberations, we think the committee has done just that. But how can you, the partygoer, know that this year will be like last year’s party, just better? Because this year’s party is Cirque Du Purim, the sequel. Defying a long Hollywood tradition of sequels sucking compared to the original, Purim 2013 is going to be legendary. Why? Mainly because of the fire jugglers.
First of all, Purim falls on a Saturday this year. None of that Thursday night Shushan Purim crap. This year we can get so drunk that we can’t tell the difference between Haman and Mordechai and NOT have to worry about going to work the next day.
Second, the party has moved from the VFW, up the street to Intermedia Arts. Intermedia Arts is bigger, classier, and just awesomer.
Third, the entertainment is totally kickass. Did we mention there will be fire jugglers? Joy Veh also returns for a second straight year, fresh from her shows at the Bryant-Lake Bowl where she’s been taking Minneapolis by storm. And new this year will be an improvised Purim speil, with Jewish improvisers including someone you may recognize from TCJ!
There will be kosher carnival food, a costume contest; you’ll get to mingle with Jews, probably some gentiles, FIRE JUGGLERS, stilt walkers, and DJ Becca Gee will be spinning sick beats all night.
There’s a cover charge, but once you’re in, the liquor’s on the house! Beer, wine, Bacardi mojitos, and fire jugglers will make this an event you don’t want to miss! The power is yours!
