Annual Event (Or…um…Yeah, I’ve got nothing.)

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), an organization dedicated to lobbying the US government in the hopes of strengthening the relationship between the United States and Israel, will be holding its annual event on Wednesday May 20 at the Hilton Minneapolis. Leadership cocktails (whatever that means!) and hors d’oeuvres (now we’re talkin’!) reception will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a community program and a dessert reception. Between the alcohol, finger food and dessert, how is anything going to get accomplished before everyone goes into a drunken stupor and/or food coma?!

¡Sephardic es muy caliente!

Get your Sephardic on with Beth Jacob Congregation’s 5775 Tikkun Leil Shavuot event, Finding Sinai through Spain: Sephardic Paths into Torah. The first leg of the all-night extravaganza, beginning on Saturday May 23, at 5 p.m., will feature a dinner and workshops exploring Sephardic Jewish history, culture, and the arts. The second leg of the event, for those who have found it within themselves to consume mass quantities of Red Bull, espresso, or crystal meth (take your pick!), will involve an interactive all-night learning event, carrying the Torah from home to home until dawn and—oy vey…I’m exhausted just thinking about it!

clerWrestlemania (with Prayers)

Ever wonder what it would be like to see your clergy having a sweaty, knock-out, drag-out fight inside a ring? Well…keep dreamin’ homes, ‘cuz that ain’t this event. However—achem!!—if all your unanswered prayers and questions have got you wrestling with the Almighty, you’re not alone. Even Rabbis get the blues. On Saturday May 23, at 7 p.m., come to Adath Jeshurun for Clergy Confessional: Adath Clergy Wrestle with Prayer, and watch as TC Jewfolk’s own Executive Director Libby Parker moderates an in-depth conversation between Adath clergy about their own issues of faith. Stay for blintzes and ice cream.

We Can Be Heroes…

Springsteen…Spielberg…Copperfield…Ben & Jerry…will not be attending the Arthur and Irene Stillman Torah Weekend being held at Beth El Synagogue, beginning at 5:45 p.m. However, Scholar-in-Residence Danny Siegel, one of the world’s leading experts on microphilanthropy (whoa…Hal no likey big words! Head hurts bad!), will be presenting “What Can Bruce Springsteen, Steven Spielberg, David Copperfield, Ben & Jerry, And The Late Paul Newman And Liz Taylor Teach Us About Mitzvot That We Don’t Know?” (And the award for longest hyperlink goes to…!! )Wait a second!! Wait just one…damned…second!! Are you trying to tell me that Copperfield is a MOT?! I thought he was Wiccan!

Back Pocket…Events to Come! (Or…Events to Come, but we’ll schmooze about them more later!)
