April Get The Folk Out

With so much going on this month, you’ll be saying “Dayenu” long after Passover has finished. The Moishe House gang has a ton in store, the Key Fellowship is kicking off, and the whole Twin Cities crew is assembling on April 22nd to celebrate Israel’s 70th! Without further ado:

Freedom from Addiction Seder ($25)

April 2 @ 6-9 p.m.

JRN & JFCS invite you to join them for a seder to celebrate another kind of freedom – the freedom from addiction. The event takes place at Beth El Synagogue and includes the meal and the experience (financial assistance available).

Moishe House Carb Fest (Free)

April 7 @ 7-10 p.m.

It doesn’t get much more self-explanatory than this… You just survived Passover – you earned some carbs. Moishe House has you covered.

Bouldering & Bagels w/TAXY ($10)

April 8 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Another chance to eat some carbs, but at least you can feel less guilty about it since you can work off a bit climbing up a huge wall. Be sure to RSVP by April 3rd to Jorie at [email protected]

Passing Our Stories On

April 8 @ 2-4:30 p.m.

After noshing and climbing with TAXY, come on over to exercise your mind and your heart with J-Pride as they empower us to answer the tough questions: What does freedom and liberation look like across generations of LGBTQ Jewish folks? How have people fought for their place in the Jewish community? How has the queer Jewish landscape changed over the past decades?

A Soldier’s Story ($25 in advance)

April 10 @ 7-9 p.m.

AISH has put together this opportunity to hear David Sussman tell his story about going from his lackadaisical days living in a van to serving as a proud soldier in the IDF. It’s a great way to gear up for Yom HaZikaron. Your admission includes a free drink!

Love Your Neighbor ($18)

April 11 @ 7-8 p.m.

Through a variety of texts and commentary, Jewish and those of other cultures, we will engage in an exploration of “The Golden Rule” and create your own keepsake art piece.

Meet Titi Aynaw (Free?)

April 12 @ 5:30-7 p.m.

Join Moishe House at the Lyndale Taphouse (2937 South Lyndale Ave, Minneapolis) to meet Titi Aynaw. Titi was the first black Miss Israel and 2013 Miss Universe contestant. She’ll share her views on being Jewish and Ethiopian, Israel, and women’s empowerment. How often do you get to meet a beauty queen?

Maroon & Gold Shabbat

April 13 @ 5:30-8 p.m.

Minnesota Hillel will host our 4th Annual Maroon and Gold Shabbat, bringing together over 500 students, parents, alumni and community members to McNamara Alumni Center on campus. It is truly the one time of year student get to show off our amazing campus community to you; our family, friends and supporters.

Good Deed’s Day w/Moishe House, PJ Library & NextGe (Free)

Honeymoon Israel Informational Session (Free)

April 16 6-7:30 p.m.

Come join me (Charley) and the HMI team to find out about this opportunity to travel with YOUR partner to Israel for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The link above will bring you directly to the registration link for the informational session. The event is at LynLake Brewery – and the first rounds are on me! If you can’t make this one, fear not! We’ll be having another info session on May 15th on the East side of the river.

Yom HaZikaron (Free)

April 17 @ 7 p.m.

Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) comes before Yom Ha’Atzmaut so that we do not forget all of those who sacrificed so much so that Israel could, and can continue to, exist. This year, there will be simultaneous programs on either side of the river. Please click for more information, click on either city’s event MPLS STP.

Free Thursday @ the Walker w/Moishe House

April 19 @ 5-9 p.m.

Join the MoHo gang at the Walker for Free Thursdays!

Golmah ($12)

April 19 @ 7:00 p.m.

It’s a Jewish play. At a bar. In Minneapolis. This is cool. “A re-do of the classic Golem story, in this one women build the first magical creature of Prague for protection – sort of an early Me Too movement – but the entire story deals with the effects of discrimination, repression, and minority rights. Yet, there is humor, history, and hope built into the play, and of course flamenco dance to build the Golmah, the female Golem.”

Israel @ 70

April 22 @ 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.

This is the one I’ve been waiting for since I first heard about it. Beyond the Israeli food, the community celebration, etc., etc. – There will also be live music by two of my personal favorite artists – Kosha Dillz & Cafe Shachor Hazak – one of Israel’s leading musical groups. There is fun for the whole family! I cannot stress how much this is not an event to miss.

St. Paul Jewish Federation’s Spring Event (Varies – No Minimum Gift Required)

April 26 @ 6 p.m.

Come schmooze and booze with the St. Paul Jews. This event will feature Twin Cities native, Rabbi Steven Leder, who will be discussing The Extraordinary Nature of Ordinary Things.

Surly Brewery Tour w/Moishe House

April 26 @ 7 p.m.

If you aren’t sick of them by now (kidding, of course) join the Moishe House gang for some beer and a tour of Surly. Be on the lookout on their Facebook Page for more info.
