The leaves are starting to change, the kids are settling into their school routines, and as American Jews, we’re stepping right into a cozy yet oh-so-very busy season.
This may sound as familiar to you as it does to me.
The High Holidays bring us together for reflection and celebration, filled with family, friends, and delicious food.
And just when we think we can catch our breath after all the hosting and guesting, Thanksgiving sneaks up, reminding us that the spirit of gratitude and togetherness keeps the festivities – and the busyness! – going.
Instead of fighting this unique American Jewish fall experience …
This year our team has decided to fully embrace and celebrate it!
The beauty –and crossover– of fall, the harvest, and the focus on gratitude isn’t lost on us.
And neither is the need and want to gather with our fellow Jews in community, coziness, and FUN!
So we present to you: Sukkotgiving!
In this article, I’ll share with you:
- What is Sukkotgiving?
- Why I designed Sukkotgiving specifically for YOU.
- Who in your community is involved with Sukkotgiving.
- And answers to the most common questions I’ve gotten from you about Sukkotgiving.
Let’s dig in!
Sukkotgiving is going to be a beautiful evening with …
A gorgeous – catered, kosher, vegetarian, and dairy – fall meal.
Live music with The Long Honeymoon.
A grounding moment with Rabbi Jill Avrin from Your Jewish.
A meaningful moment + gift for all with local artist Robyn Awend.
And small gifts for any children present from PJ Library.
Why did I design Sukkotgiving specifically for YOU?
This summer, I directed TC Jewfolk’s first storytelling show, MN Mammalehs: Stories from the tribe.
It was a gorgeous evening that people told our team over and over again how much they loved.
Except for one thing:
The lack of nosh!
If you were one of the many (truly, so many!) people who told me that you loved the Mammalehs show so much except you wished there were snacks, you’re going to LOVE Sukkotgiving.
I designed this event with the same goals of coziness + community as the Mammalehs show, all centered around a gorgeous fall meal!
If that sounds amazing, this event is for YOU! Join us!
Sukkotgiving is sponsored by MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger
We are so proud and grateful to partner with MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger as the sponsor of Sukkotgiving. Everything about their work embodies our goals for how to maneuver this world as an American Jew.

Sukkotgiving FAQ
I know this event is coming up, but I don’t really understand it!
At its core, Sukkotgiving is an evening with a delicious catered fall meal, live music, and celebrating within our Jewish community. We all need that goodness right now!
What is the dress attire for the event?
It’s a nice meal + live music, so we’ve been saying “like a nice fall dinner out.” And the confirmation email suggests “dressing in fall colors” just for fun!
When is it?
Sunday, November 3, 2024 5-7 p.m.

Not sure if I will be able to sponsor/fill a table? But I really want that discount!
That makes sense to us! One smart thing people have told us is that they’re putting a group of friends together, one person buys the table, and everyone pays them back so that everyone gets that 10% discount. The discount is the equivalent of one free ticket!
I have a few people who want to go with me, but I’m waiting to buy our tickets until I hear back from the rest of our group. Any reason to not wait?
We totally get this – we would wait so that we could get that discount, too! We have to close ticket sales on Oct 21st for our caterer and that’s only 12 days away! Maybe give the friends a little nudge and add a calendar reminder for 10/21 in the morning to buy those tickets!
Is this a fundraising event in the sense that attendees will be asked to donate money or is it just simply an event where the tickets are the donation to TC Jewfolk?
The latter — a (beautiful!) event where the tickets are the donation to TC Jewfolk.
What will Robyn (the artist) be doing at the event?
We love this question! Local artist Robyn Awend is bringing her artistic talent to the Sukkotgiving table – she’s hand-making a gorgeous gift for every single attendee!
Yes, you get to take it home with you.
Yes, it’s stunning.
And yes, she’s going to challenge you to put some good out into the world with it.
We actually can’t wait to share this with you!

Will there be kids there?
At the moment of writing this email, we don’t know of any kids attending, but it is a possibility!
Can I bring my kids?
Yes, they’re welcome with their own tickets! They’ll enjoy the food – and the fall desserts! – and the music + the PJ Library books provided for them. The books are a gift and your kids can take them home. Just please let us know if you bought tickets for kids + their ages so that we can have the right books for them.
What’s the “grounding moment” going to be? Will it be long?
We’re so glad you asked! Rabbi Jill Avrin will lead us through a short reflection on being an American Jew at this moment in time. It will be someone smart + wonderful giving voice to what we all may be feeling and thinking about at this time of year as American Jews.
Will the food be Kosher?
Yes! The food is: catered, kosher, vegetarian, dairy, and fall themed!
Can you tell me who the caterer is?
Yes, it’s Spirit of Asia! They work closely with Beth El and have fully embraced creating an incredible fall menu for us – we’re so lucky to have them on board!
Who will I sit with if I don’t buy a table?
Purchased tables will be assigned and the rest of the seating will be open. You can sit with whom you arrived and maybe make new friends with others who end up at your table!
