Holly Guncheon To Leave Herzl Camp After 18 Years

Holly Guncheon, longtime fundraiser and advancement director at Herzl Camp, will be leaving after nearly two decades of work with the independent Jewish summer camp.

“Holly has been an important and instrumental part of Herzl’s growth and success throughout her tenure and the results of her work will continue to sustain Herzl Camp for generations,” said Tommy Hoffman, executive director of Herzl Camp, in an email to Herzl families announcing Guncheon’s departure.

“Holly joined Herzl as a consultant and quickly took on a full-time role as Herzl’s first-ever fundraising professional to lead Herzl’s inaugural capital campaign,” Hoffman said, “a highly successful effort that raised millions of dollars to build new cabins throughout the camp and expand capacity for more Jewish children to experience Herzl Camp.”

Guncheon was also instrumental in establishing the Herzl Camp Foundation, which helps steward the organization’s endowment.

She also invested in Herzl’s initiative to bring Israeli campers living near the Gaza border to camp in the summer. Other camps, with help from Guncheon, have worked on similar programs.

“Seeing the impact it made on the Israeli children that attended Herzl, and the benefits of Herzl’s American campers building lasting relationships with their Israeli peers, Holly took on the challenge to raise funds to grow the program over time,” Hoffman said.

Guncheon has also been a key part of Herzl’s senior management, serving at one point as interim executive director. Earlier this year she was awarded the Leon & Sylvia Sorkin Jewish Communal Professional Achievement Award by the Minneapolis Jewish Federation.

“Holly will always be part of our Herzl family,” Hoffman said. “We greatly appreciate Holly’s incredible contributions to Herzl, which she leaves significantly stronger than the organization she joined many years ago.”
