“On Moische! On Herschel! On Schlomo! Means that Hanukkah Harry…er…Hag Sameach (Happy Holidays) Program is here! We dance the hora around the menorah
’cuz Hag Sameach is here!”
OK, those aren’t the real words of the classic SNL sketch with Jon Lovitz as Hanukkah Harry. But humor us. It’s almost the holidays and you want to make it onto the “Nice” list, not the “Naughty” one, don’t you?
Hag Sameach at Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis is collecting donations of gift certificates (especially gift cards for movie theaters), cash or other presents to deliver to referred individuals and families. Last year, more than 1,000 individuals in need received gifts through Hag Sameach, with the generous help of volunteers and donors.
Gifts are accepted year-round, but to build the supply for this Hanukkah and Christmas season, donations are needed by Friday, December 2. You can drop off donations at the Sabes JCC (4330 Cedar Lake Rd, St. Louis Park 55416) or JFCS offices (13100 Wayzata Blvd, Suite 400, Minnetonka 55305).

And here are a few heartfelt thank-you notes the Hag Sameach coordinator has received. If these don’t make you want to donate or volunteer, you must be on the “Naughty” list!
“I received a really nice and thoughtfully put-together bag of many gifts. It is obvious that a lot of care and thought went into each of them. Thank you so very much. Especially at this time of year, I needed this care.”
“I would like to thank you so very much for the wonderful gifts you delivered to my home. Thanks for all you do to make my world brighter.”
“It was as though a bird spoke in your ear telling you what I needed. I am especially enjoying the large, soft bath towels and the beautiful hat, scarf and gloves. Thank you so much for your kind generosity.”
“Thank you so much for all the wonderful gifts. Your thoughtfulness in sending quality, practical and fun gifts was greatly appreciated.”
“Thank you for Buzz Lightyear. I was waiting for him all year!”
“I knew I was going to get a few gifts but I did not know it was going to be that much. I opened just one gift and am going to wait until Chanukah begins so I have something to look forward to.”
