Welcome to “Who the Folk?!” Every week on Monday we feature a new member of the community as our “Person of the Week.” Last week week we got to know Robyn & Josh Awend. This week meet Jeremy Frank! Know someone we should feature? Nominate them by sending an email to bradley@tcjewfolk.com.
TC Jewfolk: Are you from the Twin Cities?
Jeremy: Yes. I grew up in Golden Valley. The GV! I went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. After graduating from Cornell hotel school (where I learned the prestigious art of folding sheets correctly), I moved to Manhattan for a few years working as a Manager of Hospitality at the Bumble and Bumble salon. I moved back to Minneapolis in 2006. I actually moved back to Minneapolis because I realized how difficult it was to get to a Target in NYC.
TCJ: You work at Target. Are you part of the Jewish network there run by [former Who the Folk?! profile] Mark Divine?
Jeremy: Yes, I am involved. I hope to improve my attendance in the coming year though.
TCJ: Are you involved in any other TC organizations?
Jeremy: I organize my closet. Does that count?
Seriously though, I have been active in Jeremiah, and we are members of Adath.
TCJ: We’re taking an informal survey. Which of the many Jewish summer camps gets you all ferklempt?
Jeremy: Even though I attended Teko and worked as a nurse there in college, I am not beholden to any camp.
TCJ: What’s your favorite way to celebrate Shabbat?
Jeremy: My family has a great tradition of going to Punch Pizza – either Wayzata or Calhoun. I love this non traditional Shabbas. It is a great way to unwind without the dishes. I am not a great unwinder though.
TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday?
Jeremy: I know I am in the minority, but I like Yom Kippur. I really enjoy the break fast. I love bagels.
TCJ: What’s your favorite Jewish food?
Jeremy: Kasha and bow ties. I know that is more of a self-designed meal, but who doesn’t like bow ties?
TCJ: Who is the coolest Jew?
Jeremy: Steve Wynn – I love hotels.
TCJ: What’s your favorite thing to do in the cities?
Jeremy: I love to run around the Lakes with my wife and our daughter in the stroller. I also love to go to the Mill City Farmer’s Market in the summer for doughnuts.
TCJ: What else do you do for fun?
Jeremy: I am obsessed with the weather. I really enjoy reading weather.com stories and watching Sven on Kare 11. I should have been a meteorologist. I also love travel. I really enjoy reading about airplanes and various airline companies.
TCJ: Give us one more reason why you’re folking awesome!
Jeremy: I am a great example of somebody that moved away 7 years, but realized what I missed in the Twin Cities. I met my wife here, and we had a kid here. We joined Adath. Twin Cities is an amazing place to be.
