It Takes The Cake Closes

For years, a stop at It Takes The Cake on a Friday for Shabbat challah was a staple of the week. Unfortunately, it may be sometime before that’s going to happen again.

The bakery abruptly closed this week, leaving only a note on the door that Friday challah orders could be picked up nearby at Crossroads Delicatessen.

A note on the door read: “Due to personal reasons, Hugues Lao and family have decided to move on. The Greenbrier Center Owners in Partnership With Crossroads Delicatessen are working on plans to keep the Bakery and the recipes going. Stay Tuned!”

According to an employee at Crossroads, they were notified at noon on Thursday that It Takes The Cake was shuttering. The plans right now is that Crossroads will bake the standing challah orders for It Takes The Cake customers for at least next Shabbat, using the It Takes The Cake Recipe. Plans after that have not been disclosed.
