We’ve spent years teaching about Jewish identity, community, and the challenges—and joys—of raising proud Jewish children in a complex world. One thing we know for sure: the teen years are a make-or-break time for forming that identity. Our kids are asking big questions: Who am I? Where do I come from? What does my Jewishness mean to me—and how do I live it in a way that feels authentic, relevant, and joyful?
That’s why we want every Twin Cities Jewish 11th and 12th grader to hear about an opportunity that could truly shape their future: the JCRC Youth Fellowship for Jewish Identity and Leadership.
Applications are now open for the 2025-26 school year, and this is not just another extracurricular activity. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience designed to nurture leadership, deepen Jewish identity, and empower teens to find their voice in a way that feels both timeless and timely. The program runs just once a month—very doable for teens juggling school, sports, and other commitments—and culminates in a meaningful capstone project. Successful participants also receive a $1,000 stipend, thanks to the generosity of a donor who believes in this next generation of Jewish leaders.
Let’s be honest: Our kids are growing up in a world that often misunderstands or misrepresents what it means to be Jewish. They need safe, supportive spaces to wrestle with their questions, connect with peers who “get it,” and walk away with real tools—knowledge, confidence, pride—to navigate whatever comes their way.
That’s exactly what this fellowship offers.
In the words of one teen from last year’s cohort:
“The Youth Fellowship is a space where you don’t have to shrink who you are. You’ll meet others who care deeply, who challenge and support you, and who help you grow into the kind of person you didn’t even know you could become.”
Here’s what the data shows:
- 90% of participants said the program strengthened their Jewish identity
- 90% gained essential Jewish knowledge
- 95% said the capstone project helped them develop leadership skills
- 100% of parents surveyed agreed that their child came out stronger and more connected
One parent shared this:
“The JCRC fellowship was transformative for our son. He made friends from other schools, grew more confident in his Jewish identity, and learned how to advocate with both heart and knowledge. And he loved every minute of it.”
So, here’s our message to teens—and to the parents, grandparents, and educators who love them: This fellowship is a gift. It’s a space to grow, to lead, and to step into your Jewish identity with pride.
Applications are due October 5, 2025. Rolling admission begins September 10. Decisions will be sent by October 17.
