Primo Levi’s Most Evocative Poem – The Sh’ma

A study led by Roberta Schwartz

Roberta Schwartz was at Mount Zion alongside her husband Rabbi Fred Schwartz for almost a decade, 1966-74. She last taught at Mount Zion about Glückel of Hameln and mesmerized her audience at the Our Bodies Our Souls Women’s Retreat. She returns to Mount Zion to unlock another detail of history, a poem by Holocaust survivor Primo Levi with roots from his congregation’s siddur (prayerbook) in Turin, Italy. The primal power of this poem speaks to our present moment. It was originally titled, Psalmo (Psalm). Why the change? Come and find out!
