Is Holocaust Denial Anti-Semitism? Emory Professor Comes to Town

Is Holocaust denial just a new form of anti-Semitism?

Professor Deborah Lipstadt

Professor Deborah Lipstadt

Professor Deborah Lipstadt , Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University, is speaking in Minnesota this week, in an attempt to answer that very question.
Professor Lipstadt is an outspoken scholar of Holocaust denial, and author of the prominent book  Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory.
She was also at the center of the sensational international lawsuit, filed by Holocaust denier David Irving, who sued Professor Lipstadt for libel in British court, for having accused him in her book of having distorted history to deny the Holocaust.
As part of that trial, Professor Lipstadt went on to prove in a British court the historical truth of the genocidal murder of six million European Jews during World War II, and to detail before the court David Irving’s systematic distortions of the historical record.
She has been a prominent and outspoken voice against both outright Holocaust denial, and what she has termed “soft-core denial,” for years. She is also the director of the website HDOT: Holocaust Denial on Trial, which catalogues the legal and evidentiary materials from the British denial trial, and publishes the answers to the frequent claims made by Holocaust deniers.
Professor Lipstadt will speak at two Minnesota universities this week, and will address the idea of Holocaust denial as nothing but a new form of Anti-Semitism.
Professor Lipstadt will speak at the University of Minnesota Coffman Theater on Wednesday, October 26th, at 7:00 p.m.  [Eds. Note: Tickets are free and open to the public for the event at the UofM, but a limited number – as of 10:31pm last night, just 58 – still remain available.  Click here to register for your free ticket.] She will also speak at St. Cloud State University, in the Ritsche Auditorium, on Thursday, October 27th, at 7:00 p.m.  [Eds.
