Obituary For Edward Orman

Dr. Edward Orman, age 93, of Minneapolis (formerly Green Bay, WI) passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Edward was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a young Jewish child growing up during World War II, he felt a strong sense of patriotism and enlisted in the U.S. Army after his junior year in high school. He proudly served in Trieste, Italy during the post war occupation.

He continued to serve in the Army Reserve where he rose to the rank of Colonel. After his military service, Edward attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison on the GI Bill, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science. He then went on to earn his medical degree.

A brilliant physician, Edward specialized in psychiatry, with a focus on children and adolescents. He was adored by his patients and co-workers. He was the Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Bellin Psychiatric Center in Green Bay.

Edward touched the lives of many people with his warmth and generosity. He embodied a humble and loving soul and made people feel seen and heard. During his residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, Edward met Millie, a young nurse who shared his sense of humor and love of classical music. They married in 1959 and together they raised four adoring daughters in a Jewish household filled with lots of love and a little chaos.

Edward and Millie shared a long and loving relationship until her passing in 2012. Edward loved life. He was a life-long learner of history, especially WWII. He enjoyed planning and taking vacations. He was obsessed with the Packers and proudly showed off his green and gold while living in Minnesota.

He enjoyed skiing down snow covered mountains, sitting around the table discussing politics, and chocolate ice cream till the very end. But Edward’s greatest joy was his family.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred; son, Abraham; parents, Sarah and Abraham Orman; and his brother, Monroe Orman. Survived by his daughters, Deborah Orman (Tom Davies), Sheryl Schochet (Wesley Schochet), Rachel Orman (David Jones), and Rebecca Orman (Christian Fredrickson); and his five grandchildren, Griffith, Sararosa, Isabelle, Elliot, and Molly.

The family would like to thank Living Life Home Care, and especially Lauren, Touching Hearts, and Sholom Hospice for all their kindness, compassion and excellent care, which made it possible for Edward to stay at home, surrounded by family and friends until the very end.
