With Hanukkah just about over, it’s time to make your plans for Christmas. Chinese food and a movie on Christmas day is a must. And Christmas Eve? Don’t miss the biggest, hottest party of the year for Twin Cities Jews (21+). It’s time for the 5th Annual Jewbilee!
Here are my picks for hot happenings 4 hip Jews in the Twin Cities from December 17th to the 31st:
12/24/2009. Fifth Annual Jewbilee! 9:00pm, 501 Club (501 Washington Avenue South), Minneapolis. The Jewbilee, now a Minnepolis staple, will have DJs spinning music, live performances. raffle prizes, and a totally free Chinese buffet! It’s free to attend and open to everyone (21 and up) Jewish or not. A portion of the bar profits will be donated to benefit Jewish Community Action, an especially commendable Jewish organization doing great work in our community.
Originally launched by DJ/musician (currently in China) Danny Sigelman, rapper Yoni and the JCA-affiliated group Indie Jews, the Jewbilee has been held in previous years at the Kitty Kat Club, the 331 Club, and Grumpy’s. It’s being held this year at the 501 Club in Minneapolis, and when just about everything else is closed, the party will be rockin’ well past midnight. Dress is casual. Is there a cooler event all year for hip Jews in Minneapolis? Not even close!
The Jewbilee is sponsored by Indie Jews, Jewish Community Action, Stand Up! Records, 501 Club, United Jewish Fund and Council, Minneapolis Jewish Federation, and TC Jewfolk.com.
Notable Mention:
12/21/2009 Beth El Young Adults at Coopers, the new Irish pub in St. Louis Park.
12/25/2009 Young Leadership (21-45) Tzedakah Bowl with the Minneapolis Jewish Federation at Metrodome.
For those of you east of the river, don’t forget Noazim’s “The Roof is on Fire” Chanukah party at Rabbi and Cantor Spilker’s house. Thursday, December 17, 7:00pm – 9:30pm. We’ll have latkes, desserts, drinks, and cool Jewish folks to play Jewish Apples to Apples and Texas Dreidel!
