Alef List: The Hottest Upcoming Events

Plenty of great things to do in the next two weeks – highlights include Yom Ha’atzmaut celebrations (of course!), some great jazz and another awesome Young Leadership happy hour. So get out there and connect with the community. You’ll be glad you did.
Here’s the Alef List for April 20 – May 3:
Tuesday 4/20/10:
Join the very hip St. Paul shlicha (Israeli emissary) Alisa Warshavsky and two visiting musicians from Israel for shira betzibur, an Israeli-style sing-a-long to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut. Evyatar Edri and Or Cohen will lead songs from the early days as well as some contemporary hits. You don’t need to know Hebrew and you don’t even have to be a good singer (but they won’t turn you away if you are). The fun starts at 7pm at the St. Paul JCC and is free and open to the public.
Wednesday 4/21/10:
The Yom Ha’atzmaut festivities continue in Minneapolis with a community-wide celebration hosted by the Israel Program of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Sabes JCC. The event features young Israeli singer Hananel Edri, Israeli dancing with Shira Schwartz and a visit from IDF soldiers of the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit. The event starts at 6pm at the Sabes JCC. Free and open to the public.
Thursday 4/22/10:
Check out some great Israeli jazz when the St. Paul JCC hosts the Matan Klein Quartet for a 7pm show. The quartet will be joined by Evyata Edri and Or Cohen (see 4/20 above for more fun with them). Tickets are very reasonably priced at $15 for St. Paul JCC members, $20 for the public and $6 for students. Or, be one of two lucky TC Jewfolk readers to win a pair by entering here before midnight on 4/20.
Thursday 4/29/10:
The Minneapolis Jewish Federation Young Leadership group hosts its monthly happy hour. This month, join the gang at Zahtar by Fhima at their downtown Minneapolis location, situated on the second floor of The Grand Hotel. Don’t miss $5 sushi rolls, $3 drink specials and the chance to hang with a very fun crowd. Find Barb Adelman if it’s your first happy hour with the Mpls Young Leadership and she’ll make sure to hook you up with a free glass of wine or a beer.
