Baby’s Got Books!

We all have great characters in our lives, whether it’s Crazy Aunt Rivkah or that soap opera actor who’s come back from the dead three times … But the characters that leave the biggest impression are those we first meet, through the books we cherish as children.

The Berenstain Bears, Curious George, Peter Rabbit, Cat in the Hat…they all comprise a menagerie of beloved characters.

And you (or someone you know) can enjoy bringing more darling, educational and fun books into the home—for free—through PJ Library at Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis (JFCS). What’s more, PJ Library books explore the timeless core values of Judaism and are a great way to support Jewish learning and identification at home.

All families raising children from age 6 months through 8 years in the Minneapolis community are welcome to enroll in PJ Library. The free, high-quality Jewish children’s books are sent monthly to enrolled families, and there are four or five age-specific programs each year that involve the books and fun activities. Contact Debbie Wolfe, PJ Library Coordinator, at 952-417-2139 or [email protected], if you’re interested in participating.

Another fantastic, free program JFCS offers young parents through PJ Library is Shalom Baby. The program sends parents of newborns a gift bag filled with baby items, freebies from local businesses, other goodies, and information on area Jewish organizations.

JFCS is looking for parents of newborns to receive the bags, as well as volunteers to deliver the Shalom Baby goodies. Volunteers would make just two or three deliveries a month, and have a big impact connecting with families.

There’s no “catch” to these programs—all a parent has to do is sign up! Have questions about enrolling or volunteering? Please contact Debbie at 952-417-2139 or [email protected].

PJ Library is a national initiative of The Harold Grinspoon Foundation, and is locally funded through the Louis Herman Memorial Fund, a designated fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of the Minneapolis Federation, a grant from Harry and Sandy Lerner, and JFCS.
