June is Pride Month, and there is no shortage of activities in the Jewish Community thanks to J-Pride, which is a program of Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis. Below is a list of what J-Pride has in store throughout June, and listen to our recent Who The Folk?! Podcast with J-Pride Program Coordinator Jayce Koester, who talks about some of these programs and what J-Pride does throughout the year.
Drag Story Hour and Gallery Reception – 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the Sabes Jewish Community Center (4330 Cedar Lake Rd, St. Louis Park). Join us for a Drag Story Hour from 3-4 p.m.; participate in building a community chuppah; and visit a display of photography from throughout our communities. This is a great, family-friendly way to kick off pride week together with J-Pride, PJ Library, and the JCC’s of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Annual Pride Happy Hour – 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Urban Growler Brewing (2325 Endicott St, St. Paul). Join us on Urban Growler’s patio for a delicious happy hour at the first woman-owned brewery in Minnesota! There will be a nosh, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and plenty of old and new friends! There will be a brief program, optional activities, and lots of time to enjoy Pride month together!
Kabbalat Shabbat Pride Service – 6:15 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Mayim Rabim Congregation (4401 York Ave. S., Minneapolis). Join J-Pride and our friends at Mayim Rabim Congregation for a soulful evening prayer service that celebrates Pride. Followed by a dairy, vegetarian potluck, we’ll gather to hear voices from our community and welcome Shabbat in style!
Under the Rainbow: Shabbat at Pride – 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, on the Rainbow Stage in Loring Park in Minneapolis. Come to Shabbat morning ASL-interpreted worship services at Pride and be your whole self. Together, we will celebrate Shabbat in Loring Park in proud, pluralistic, queer, Jewish community. This is the first time we’ve held a Shabbat service on the stage in Loring Park and we cannot wait to sing, daven, read Torah, and celebrate with all of you!
March in the Ashley Rukes Pride Parade – Sunday, June 23. Join J-Pride and other communal partners to march in the annual Pride Parade! Bring a water bottle, comfy clothes, signs, and lots of joyous ruach! We cannot wait to see you on 2nd Avenue South celebrating!
J-Pride Booth at Loring Park – All day on Sunday, June 23. Help as a volunteer in the booth, welcoming visitors, answering questions, handing out swag, and soaking in the vibrancy of Loring Park during Pride! Sign up to volunteer here.
