Isaac Broderius, an 8th grader, is one of this year’s Keren Or (Ray of Light) creative arts contest winners. He won 2nd Place in 7-9 grade prose for “The Family Craft.” Here’s a Q&A with him about his work!
Why did you create the art you did, and what message do you hope people take away from it?
It started in English class, where we had to bring in an item important to us and I thought of the pocket knife (obviously I didn’t bring it in) and then I started to think about the object more and its history and realized it could make a good story. I hope people think more about the things they have and how much history one thing can have.
What does creating art mean to you and why is it important to you?
To me art means expressing yourself in a not so obvious way, like writing a story or drawing. It is important to me because it is something different from my normal life. I don’t usually write, but when I do, I love it.
Share a fun fact about yourself that you’d like people to know?
I love to play sports like soccer and run track.
