Keren Or Featured: Etty Last

Etty Last, a 12th grader, is one of this year’s Keren Or (Ray of Light) creative arts contest winners. She won 2nd place in 10-12 grade prose for “A Darker Side” and Honorable Mention for “The Puzzle.” In 10-12 grade poetry, she won 3rd place for “They, My Home” and Honorable Mention for “Mirror.” Here’s a Q&A with her about her work!

What impact does winning Keren Or have on you personally and your work?

Making me feel like I’m doing something right when it comes to writing, and keeps me going with my writing.

Why did you create the art you did, and what message do you hope people take away from it?

I started it because I liked the idea of it, or for a school project. I hope people can take whatever enjoyment and relaxation they can from sitting down and reading my stories and poems.

What does creating art mean to you and why is it important to you?

It means creativity. It’s important to keep stretching your mind and trying new things.
