Parade is based on the true story of Leo and Lucille Frank, a newlywed Jewish couple struggling to make a life in the old red hills of Georgia. When Leo is accused of an unspeakable crime, it propels them into an unimaginable test of faith, humanity, justice, and devotion.

The show first hit the stage in 1998, with the book by two-time Tony Award winner, Pulitzer Prize winner, and Academy Award winner Alfred Uhry, music and lyrics by three-time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, and co-conceived by 21-time Tony Award-winning legend Harold Prince. In 2023, it won the the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Directon of a Musical. On the opening night of the revival, the show was protested by neo-Nazis.

The show tackles themes of antisemitism, racism, and historical connections to white supremacy; the show’s website compiled a list of resources to help theater-goers understand some of what is tackled in the show.
