A Behind The Scenes Look at MN Mammalehs: Stories from the Tribe

Last week we had the first rehearsal for TC Jewfolk’s second annual MN Mammalehs: Stories from the Tribe storytelling show and it was, in a word, amazing.

The first rehearsal is a table read.

Each of the 12 storytellers comes prepared to read the story she’s written for the show.

When read out loud, each story is about five minutes long. And all of the stories have to do with being or having a mammaleh.

That’s where the similarities end, though!

The topics vary (very!) widely.

This creates a beautifully cohesive mammaleh mosaic with all of the ups and downs, highs and lows, laughs and tears that come with the real-life experience of mammalehs in the Twin Cities.

And that cohesive energy could be felt in the room.

As each storyteller told her story, I could feel them threading to each other.

This happened when they belly laughed through some stories, when they passed each other tissues through other stories, and when a collective, “mmmhmm” could be heard around the table through others.

I could sense this connection forming—not just between the women, but between their stories.

It was the first glimpse of what it’ll feel like to be at the show – and it was so wonderful!

Five of this year’s storytellers were in the inaugural cast.

They’re back this year with brand new stories, and it’s so great to have them pave the way for the seven new Stories from the Tribe storytellers.

The magic of this show IS the storytellers.

There’s something deeply powerful about hearing true stories read by their authors, especially ones that are written with honesty, humor, and heart.

This show is an invitation to sit at the metaphorical table with us – to laugh, cry, nod along, and to recognize your own story in someone else’s.

Now that the first rehearsal is in the books, I can tell you that the 2025 MN Mammalehs: Stories from the Tribe show is going to be something truly special!

Don’t miss this!

About the show

An event by TC Jewfolk produced by Galit Breen, the original Minnesota Mammaleh and co-producer of Listen to Your Mother Twin Cities for the last decade-plus.

Stories from the Tribe features 12 women on the bima telling their true Jewish stories that have a thread to being a Mammaleh – whether that’s about their own Mammaleh or about being a Mammaleh – and includes all of the ups and downs, highs and lows, laughs and tears that come with the real-life experience of mammalehs in the Twin Cities.

During this time, it’s even more important for us Jews to gather and tell our stories – loud and proud!

So this, is that!

The second annual show will once again be emceed by the incredible Jordana Green, co-host of The Adam & Jordana Show on WCCO Radio and promises to be a stunning night of storytelling!

This show will be at Beth El Synagogue in St. Louis Park, and the show date is Monday, June 23 at 7 p.m. Seating is General Admission, and the doors will open at 6 p.m.
