This is a guest pst by Maggie Karl.
As a new mother, Peggy Orenstein was blind-sided by the persistent ultra-feminine messages being sent to little girls – from ‘princess mania’ to the endless permutations of pink.
Orenstein, a New York Times Bestselling Author, Minnesota Native and Jewish mother, will speak about the effects of the ‘girlie-girl’ culture at “Can A Princess Be President? Understanding (and Resisting) Media Images of Girls,” sponsored by the Minneapolis Jewish Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy division this Thursday, May 24.
Mothers, grandmothers, and pre-teen girls are encouraged to attend this intergenerational event. Orenstein is widely regarded as an expert on girls’ development and women’s issues; and the event promises to encourage meaningful discussions between women of all generations.
“Can a Princess Be President” will be held at Beth El Synagogue (5224 West 26th Street, St. Louis Park, MN 55416) at 7pm on Thursday, May 24.
Admission is $10/adult, $5/teen and kosher desert will be served.
