Choose Your Own Adventure On A Global Experience

Are you feeling the itch to travel? At Minneapolis Jewish Federation, we’ve recently revamped our travel program. We call it the David Tychman Global Experiences Program, named to honor David Tychman — a lifelong Federation supporter, avid traveler, and all-around mensch. On a global experience, you’ll see how you support Jews all over the world and step into their stories.

We’re always adding fresh new takes on experiencing the global Jewish community. Coming up, we’re heading to Israel, Bulgaria, Greece, and Uganda—and we think we might have a trip for you:

 If you’re a hands-on type…

join us in Uganda! You’ll break bread with the Abayudayan Jewish community and take part in their unforgettable Shabbat services (think the prayers you’re used to, plus drums and dancing.) Brush up on your baking skills, because you’ll be baking challah alongside Abayudayan women. And prepare to get dirty—you’ll be building a farm and kitchen at the village school. Bonus: you’ll dip a toe in the source of the Nile and have the option to hang out with gorillas!

If you love a feel-good Jewish renaissance story…

…let’s go to Greece and Bulgaria! You’ll start the trip in Sofia, Bulgaria, where the vibrant Jewish community is inspiring Jewish leaders around the world. From preschoolers to seniors, you’ll be facetoface with the direct recipients of a gift to Federation. You’ll hike the mountains around an ancient monastery and taste local Bulgarian wine. Then, it’s a quick flight to Athens where you’ll tour the ancient ruins before settling in to get to know the Athens Jewish community, thriving in the wake of Greece’s recent economic crisis.

If you want to see life through the eyes of Israeli women

…you’ll be right at home on our Women Repair the World trip to Israel. You’ll tour startups and non-profits that promote female empowerment. You’ll cook and eat in a Druze or Arab home for a one-of-a-kind cultural immersion, and participate in meaningful service projects across the country. Though this one has “women” in the title, please know that all are welcome, including gender-nonconforming and trans folks.

If none of these are speaking to you…

…stay tuned! We’ve got more global experiences in the works for 2020 and beyond.
