After these months of federal occupation, we’ll celebrate the giving of Torah and the resilience of our community with a tikkun leil Shavuot, a long night of communal dreaming, learning, song, and ritual. The story of Shavuot begins with lightning and thunder as the Israelites tremble in anticipation and fear at the base of Sinai. The story ends with the gift of Torah and a millennium-long relationship with text, community, and God. We will explore this trajectory from overwhelm to wisdom both by asking each other:
-
How does fear, awe and trembling move through our bodies and souls?
-
What covenants and commitments await us on the other side of this shaking?
-
How do we move from the motivation, inspiration, and connection formed in crisis to long term wisdom and partnership?
-
How do we learn to see past our own immediate needs in times of shaking to conceive of wider community safety and solidarity?
