Minneapolis Landmarks Glow Yellow for Holocaust Remembrance Day

As night fell Tuesday, Minneapolis landmarks including the I-35W Bridge, Capella Tower, and U.S. Bank Stadium glowed yellow in a nationwide observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The display was organized by Light Up America Yellow, a coalition that brings together landmarks and communities across the country each year on Jan. 27.  Jewish Community Relations Council Minnesota and the Dakotas is one of several Jewish organizations forming the coalition.

By lighting public spaces, buildings, and bridges in yellow, the coalition aims to honor those victims while reaffirming a commitment to combating antisemitism, hate, and Holocaust denial.

The United Nations General Assembly designated Jan. 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day to honor the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution.

Founded as a regional effort, Light Up America Yellow has grown into a national movement that partners with city governments and civic organizations to coordinate lighting events and promote Holocaust remembrance and education.
