Your Purim Planning Primer

It’s time for Purim! It’s more than just triangle-shaped treats and making lots of noise. Don’t forget the carnivals and – in some cases – cocktails!

Here’s a list of what’s going on in the community for the holiday, which starts sundown on Monday, March 9. Did we miss anything, let us know and we can add it (or comment on the article or on Facebook):

Adath Jeshurun Congregation’s annual USY Purim Carnival is on Sunday, March 8, featuring Elsa and Olaf from Frozen, games, food, and pet dogs from Secondhand Hounds. Monday night dinner before the Megillah reading is at 5:15, with the reading starting at 6:30.

AISH Minnesota’s Pop Into Purim is at Mall of America on Sunday, March 8, from 2-4 p.m. Meet in the executive center. Cost is $36 per family, and you can by $10 discounted wristbands to Nickelodeon Universe.

Bet Shalom’s annual Purim Shpiel and Carnival on Sunday, March 8 is featuring a food drive for the ICA food shelf. The Megillah reading on Monday will feature an adult oneg following the service.

Beth El Synagogue’s USY Purim Carnival features games, food, and fun, starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 8. Monday night at 7 p.m. is the Megillah reading and Shpiel.

Chabad Minneapolis’ “Great Purim Get Together” is at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.

Congregation Darchei Noam has a Megillah reading Monday night at 7:30, and then activities Tuesday morning and evening. Check here for all the details.

Mount Zion Temple has a “Frozen Chosen Purim Sing-a-long” starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, followed by their Purim Carnival at 11 a.m. On Monday, March 9, starting at 5:30 p.m., is the Adult Purim Extravaganza.

Shir Tikvah’s Purim Feast & Shpiel is Monday night, March 9, starting at 5 p.m. The evening is kid- and family-friendly. RSVP for dinner in advance, if interested, and get more information here.

Temple Israel celebrates Purim on March 8 with the “Frozen in Shushan” Purim carnival starting at 11:30 a.m. On March 9, there are a variety of megillah readings for different age groups. Learn more here.

Temple of Aaron Goes to the Olympics for Purim is on March 8 at the Anderson Athletic & Recreation Center (2115 Summit Ave.), featuring shows, experiences, and pro and amateur athletes. Monday night, March 9, is for the adults with comedian Judy Gold performing at House of Comedy at Mall of America at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online.
