Keren Or Featured: Daphne Slager

Daphne Slager, a 9th grader, is one of this year’s Keren Or (Ray of Light) creative arts contest winners. She won 1st place in 7-9 grade prose for “Earth That Twinkles,” Honorable Mention in 7-9 grade poetry for “LIGHT,” and Honorable Mention in 7-9 grade photography for “Concrete Jungle.” Here’s a Q&A with her about her work!

 

What and/or who inspires your creative practice?

The books I’ve read and my grandmother who is a professional artist.

Why did you create the art you did, and what message do you hope people take away from it?

I enjoy making art and writing stories to share them with those who it may resonate with.

What does creating art mean to you and why is it important to you?

I’ve always done creative arts and crafts, and I love creating things that have a story or meaning behind them, and to give enjoyment and beauty to my friends and family.

Share a fun fact about yourself that you’d like people to know?

I speak Dutch at home.
