Jewfolk, Inc. Associate Editor Lev Gringauz was awarded a Simon Rockower Award for Excellence in Jewish Journalism Monday night. The awards were announced at a banquet during the American Jewish Press Association annual conference in Pittsburgh.
The award, an honorable mention for Excellence in Writing about Jewish Heritage and Jewish Peoplehood in Europe, was for Gringauz’s series on the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas’ Power of Place Holocaust educator’s trip to Europe. Gringauz was embedded on the trip as a journalist and the trip photographer, documenting the journey of 16 K-12 teachers from Minnesota and other parts of the country, two other trip leaders, two daughters of the trip leaders, and one tour guide.
The award-winning entry comprised six stories written during and after the trip:

Jewfolk, Inc. publications in the Twin Cities and Cincinnati have been competing in the Rockower Awards since 2019, and between the publications, have won 13 awards while competing against the largest media outlets in Jewish journalism.
