Twin Cities Food Blogs Talk Hanukkah

We’re partial to Noshin’s Jewish cooking recipes, but if you’re a fan of food (and who isn’t?), the Twin Cities have some awesome foodie blogs. In honor of Hanukkah, several wrote about Jewish recipes for the holiday, and a few of our favorites highlighted the fine recipes of Sara, our Noshin’ blogger.

Shavua Tov: This Week’s Jewish News

This week’s Jewish news brings you a very prolific mohel, an update on sanctions against Iran, the JCRC’s response to anti-Muslim graffiti in St. Cloud, a Hanukkah song from Senator Orrin Hatch and a Ladino-Jewish hip hop group (videos below), a Hebrew-speaking dog in Montana, and a new report about prostitution in the Palestinian territories.

Christmas Lights vs. Chanukah Candles

Yep, it’s that time of year again. “Tis the season to be jolly” and all that. I remember being in London about 8 years ago and constantly hearing George Michaels singing “Last Christmas, I gave you my heart…” It’s stayed in my head for weeks afterward!

If you think Nice Jewish Guys are sexy…

If you are the kind of Jewish girl who thinks Nice Jewish Guys are sexy, check out the 2010 “Nice Jewish Guy’ calendar. What’s a Nice Jewish Guy? You know, the kind of guy you want to bring home to Bubbe. Tall, dark, handsome and hairy. Owns a talis and goes to shul. Brilliant, sensitive, likes long walks on the beach…. oy.

Hands of Light: A Traveler’s Hanukkah

It sits on my shelf, a poor relation to the stone menorah with its carvings of children holding up our candles every Hanukkah. THAT menorah is weighty with memories. THAT menorah is staying home.

Get Inspired: A Weekend with Israeli Ambassador Asher Naim

Want to be inspired? Find a time this week to listen to the former Israeli Ambassador Asher Naim tell the incredible story of the dramatic mass emigration of 14,000 Ethiopian Jews from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital city, to Israel, in what is known as Operation Solomon, and his role in making that journey possible.

PopRocks: Mainly in Washington

Greetings, PopRockers! We’re gonna mix it up and get a little political this week (in a manner of speaking)!

Big Jewish news this week – Chelsea Clinton is getting married. To a Jewish boy. With whom she went to shul on Yom Kippur. At the Jewish Theological Seminary. This is not a rumination on how Chelsea scored an NJB (this may be fodder for a future Jew-Date Diaries entry?). Wondering if she’s going the Ivanka Trump route? So are lots of people (note: the previous link includes a forum about interfaith marriages, especially in light of the “December Dilemma”).
